Padding comes out separately
After the carpet is removed, the padding may roll up in large pieces or tear into handfuls. Padding over wood is often stapled. Padding over concrete may be glued in spots or across a larger area.
Older padding can be messy
Padding changes as it ages. It can flatten, crumble, stick to the floor, or break apart around stained areas. Tell the removal company what you see, but do not feel like you have to guess why it happened.
- Stapled over wood
- Glued over concrete
- Attached to the carpet backing
- Dry and crumbling
Ask about staples and tack strips
Removing the soft padding is not the same as removing every staple or the wood strips around the walls. If those need to come out, make sure they are listed on your estimate.
