Carpet glued directly to the floor

Glue-down carpet is stubborn. We know how to get it up.

We remove glued broadloom carpet and carpet tile from homes, offices, and commercial spaces, then haul away the material included in the job.

Here’s how we can help

Glued carpet does not peel up like ordinary stretched carpet. The backing can split, small pieces can stay behind, and old adhesive may still be on the floor afterward. We will explain what the removal includes and what your flooring installer may still need to do before the new floor goes down.

What your estimate can include

  • A test lift at an exposed edge when practical
  • Cutting and pulling up glued carpet or carpet tile
  • Collection of loose carpet and backing pieces
  • Carry-out from the listed rooms
  • Haul-away and proper disposal of included materials

What can change the job

Strength of the glue

The age of the carpet, amount of adhesive, and type of floor underneath all affect how easily it releases.

Carpet tile

Some tiles lift cleanly. Others split or leave backing and glue behind.

Work after removal

Grinding, glue removal, leveling, and moisture work are separate unless your estimate specifically includes them.

What to send for an estimate

  • Send a close photo of a lifted corner if one is already exposed.
  • Tell us whether the floor underneath is concrete, wood, or unknown.
  • Share the approximate room size and the path to the nearest exit.
  • Ask your new flooring installer how clean and smooth the floor needs to be.

Glue-Down Carpet Removal FAQs

Your estimate will list the rooms, materials, carry-out, and haul-away included in the job.

Will you remove all of the old glue?

Not automatically. Carpet removal and glue removal are different jobs. Your estimate will state exactly what is included.

Does glue-down carpet cost more to remove?

It can take more time and effort than stretched carpet. The size of the area and how strongly the carpet is bonded matter most.

Can new flooring go down right away?

Your flooring installer should make that call after checking the remaining glue, floor condition, moisture, and flatness.
