Start by looking at the room
A photo of the whole room shows the size, furniture, doors, and working space. A loose corner or doorway edge may show whether the carpet is stretched over padding or glued to the floor. Do not pull up good carpet just for a photo.
- Every room that needs work
- A doorway or loose carpet edge
- Stairs and landings
- The path to the nearest outside door
Cut, roll, and carry
Stretched carpet is usually cut into manageable strips, pulled free around the edges, rolled, and carried out. Padding comes up separately and may be loose, stapled, glued, or breaking apart.
Finish with a clear floor and clear expectations
The crew removes the materials listed on the estimate and collects the loose pieces. If old glue, damage, or another flooring layer appears, the owner should see it before anyone assumes that extra work is included.
